A totally useless page, where I'm placing info on how far I've gotten
in putting up my pictures from the 2003 San Diego Comic-con.
If you see this timeline stagnate for more than a month, e-wack my
knees (or just send me an e-mail). Unfortunately, Real Life© and an
EverCrack addiction interfere with my ability to get this stuff
quickly. Additionally, I now have Star Wars Galaxies, so even more
online addiction. I'm trying to hold off on really getting into
that, though, until after I get this stuff going
2003
2002 information
In order to make this page truely live up to the Useless name,
I'm keeping the 2002 info around so you can see how lazy I am.
- 04 Oct 2002: Pictures for day three and day four are ready.
All that's left is Masquerade pictures.
- 02 Oct 2002: Pictures for day two are ready.
- 01 Oct 2002: Pictures for day one are ready.
- 30 Sep 2002: I had to work around RL a bit, but I've now
finished the pics for the Preview day. Where are they, you ask? Not
up yet. I'm going to put them all up at once, and I should be done
in the next day or two.
- 28 Sep 2002: Ok, finally a real full vacation. I've finished
processing the pics, now all I have to do is figure out which ones to put
up and add some cheesy-poof flavored text.
- 21 Sep 2002: I got hosed. That's all I can say. I was
supposed to have a vacation last weekend, lasting from Wednesday
through Monday. Except I got scheduled halfway through it and got
called in for the rest. So I got some work done, and as many people
have pointed out, uploaded some empty pages (didn't mean to do that),
but I'm only halfway through the pre-processing. My vacation has been
resheduled to go over next weekend, so, with luck and no more
screw-ups, I should get it done by the beginning of October.
- 27 Aug 2002: Ohh boy... More problems, luckily of a minor
nature. I had forgotten to "Spring Forward" on my camera,
so the time stamp on my pictures was an hour off. Ok, Ok, not really
a big problem, but it's important to me. I made a change to my
script that renames the pictures to reflect the time they were
taken, and it's all good now. Not counting the missing Saturday
morning pictures, I took 724 pictures, with a total file size of
506.15 Megabytes (half a Gig!!). These files are now separated by
day and my next step will be to run create thumbnails, and then run
JpegTran
on them in order to rotate the pictures that need to be (losslessly,
that's what JpegTran does ) and then optimize the compression
on them. That'll save me some diskspace (I know, diskspace is cheap
these days, but I'm fussy that way).
- 27 Aug 2002: "Let me know it's done" e-mail address created.
Address Removed, see above
and I'll send you an e-mail to let you know when the pictures are all up.
If you've already sent me an e-mail asking me to tell you when I'm done, go
ahead and send me a new one at this address, just in case. At worst, you'll
get 2 e-mail updates.
VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure your e-mail address is there! BCC's and
similar stuff will mean you lose out. It's not my problem if this happens
.
Important Legalese: I will not keep these addresses longer than it takes
for me to mail you after I get the pictures up. I will not sell these names
to anyone, I will not invade your privacy in any way. In fact, I won't even
look at these e-mails, so any text you put in them is your own problem.
They'll just get dropped into their own directory, from they'll sit until
I'm done.
- Previous Work, done right after Comic-con, and before my Gen-con trip:
I have copied all my pictures off of the CD's they were on (I use a Mavica
CD-1000 camera, which writes the pictures onto mini CD's) and encountered a
problem. The cheapy, no-name brand CD's I was using where coming up with
errors!! CUSS, FRELL, BLEEP (fill in your own naughty words). I nearly lost
an hour's worth of Masquerade pics. But after some hard work, persistence,
and a lot of stress, I was able to recover all of the Masquerade pics
except for one. Unfortunately, I still have to work on the one CD that has
everything from Saturday morning, and I haven't recovered any of those at
all. I've tried several cd recovery programs, but none have worked. If
anyone has some suggestions, I'm listening.
